🏘 Wat Phichai Songkhram was built around 1710 (B.E. 2253) and was originally called Wat Pho or Wat Nok. It was renovated during the early Rattanakosin period when Phra Phichai Songkhram brought troops to construct four fortifications within the temple grounds.
🙏🏽 Later, King Rama II visited the temple to offer royal Kathin robes and renamed it Wat Phichai Songkhram. Today, the fortifications have been dismantled, leaving only the names of various roads.
Highlights and significant features within the temple include:
🏚 The old ordination hall, showcasing Ayutthaya-era art, is registered as a national historic site. Inside, the principal Buddha image is in the meditation posture/enlightenment posture, along with several other Buddha statues on a raised base.
🏠 The new ordination hall, designed in a four-gabled pavilion style, reflects Rattanakosin-era art and architecture.
🛕 The pagoda is an ornate bell-shaped structure adorned with Benjarong porcelain, featuring stucco garlands and clusters of stucco lotuses decorating three tiers around the pagoda.
⛺ The sermon hall, built in traditional Thai style.
