Great trek in Cat Cat Village, Sapa

Cat Cat Village is located in Sapa, northern Vietnam. Sapa itself is a very popular tourist town located in the mountains, and is 319km away from Hanoi, requiring a 5-6h drive.

Cat Cat Village is 2.5km from the town center, and is home to the H’mong ethnic minority. As the village is surrounded by rice terraces, gardens, mountains, valleys and waterfalls, it is a great place to begin your treks.

Entry to the village is VND 150,000/pax, and it is open from 0600 - 2100h daily. Do ask for a map when purchasing the ticket as it will be helpful for navigating the village. Trekking through the village requires a certain level of fitness, as it involves going up and down many steps, which may be slippery in wet weather.

Activities in the village include viewing fantastic scenery including waterfalls and rice terraces, shopping for souvenirs, trying local delicacies and interacting with the local H’mong villagers. We were there in summer (July) and the weather was cool and comfortable. We spent half a day trekking through the village, stopping for a nice lunch by the waterfalls.

Despite being somewhat commercialised, Cat Cat retains some local cultural flavour. Its great scenery makes this a must-go attraction when you visit Sapa.
