🌅 Where the Deer Turned Back — Luhuitou Scenic Area, Sanya

Perched on a hill at the southern tip of Hainan Island, Luhuitou Scenic Area (鹿回头风景区) offers one of the best panoramic views in Sanya. The name means “Deer Turning Head” and comes from a local legend: a Li hunter chased a deer to the edge of the cliff; just as he aimed his arrow, the deer turned back into a beautiful maiden, and the two fell in love.

At the summit stands the 12-meter-tall Luhuitou statue, depicting this romantic moment. From here, you can see Sanya Bay, Phoenix Island, and the city’s coastline stretching into the horizon. The scenic trails wind through tropical plants, pavilions, and viewpoints perfect for photos.

Sunset is magical here — the sky shifts from gold to pink to deep purple, and the city lights start to twinkle below. It’s also a romantic spot at night, with illuminated paths and the soft sound of the sea breeze.
