✓ National Treasure: Osaki Hachiman Shrine
A historic shrine representing Sendai, located in the Aoba Ward of Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. The shrine features a main hall designated as a National Treasure, founded by Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai Domain. The deities enshrined here include Emperor Ojin, Emperor Chuai, Empress Jingu, and Amida Buddha.
The shrine's architecture retains the rich style of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, characterized by lavish use of gold leaf and intricate carvings. The roof is built in the irimoya-zukuri style, with a front-facing chidori-hafu and a karahafu eave at the worship hall. Both the interior and exterior are coated in black lacquer and adorned with vividly colored carvings and decorations.
Although it is a bit far from the city center, transportation is quite convenient. Visitors can reach the shrine from Sendai Station via sightseeing buses or regular city buses.
