Grandma's Cold Noodles Restaurant in Cheongnyangni, Seoul, the month of travel

✨️Cheongnyangni Grandma's Cold Noodles✨️ is a traditional cold noodle restaurant that has been in business for 45 years in Cheongnyangni Market Street. Commonly referred to as "Market Street Cold Noodles," this restaurant is renowned for its bibim cold noodles (spicy cold noodles) and spicy cold noodles. It was founded by Kim Jeong-suk, a Seoul native, with her mother many years ago. It's now run by Kim and her son, Shin Jae-woong. It was once a small restaurant without a sign, but it became famous thanks to young nurses working at a nearby hospital. It's so popular with nurses that they say they'd wash away the "hospital smell" of disinfectant and other "hospital odors" with spicy noodles on their way home. Word of mouth spread among nearby merchants, and now, with its numerous tables, it's become a popular restaurant, averaging around 1,500 customers a day. Cheongnyangni Grandma's Naengmyeon House serves its noodles, which are typically market-style, with chewy noodles topped with pickled radish, sliced cucumber, egg, a special seasoning sauce, and sesame powder. A distinctive touch is the light sprinkle of sugar and sesame oil. The naengmyeon is served only in a bibim naengmyeon (mixed cold noodles), and a refreshing broth is provided separately, allowing you to add as much as you like. It's similar to Gangwon-do's makguksu (buckwheat noodles). I'm not a huge fan of spicy food, but I'd still like to try it once, so I usually order regular when I visit a spicy restaurant. However, restaurants like this one, which don't have a specific menu and offer a "cook as you like" approach, try to make it as mild as possible. The secret to Cheongnyangni Grandma's Naengmyeon's chili seasoning is said to be the generous use of garlic, but the garlic smell isn't as pronounced as you might think. Even during these COVID-19 times, lunchtime queues can be long, sometimes exceeding 20-30 minutes. However, with a bowl of naengmyeon costing 5,000 won, and a 45-year history in the market, it's worth a visit, if not more. It's one of Seoul's top five spicy naengmyeon restaurants.
I don't know who decided it, but the top five spicy naengmyeon restaurants in Seoul are Naksan Naengmyeon, Haeju Naengmyeon, Donga Naengmyeon, Gitdaebong Naengmyeon, and Grandma's Cheongnyangni Naengmyeon. Nearby are Chuncheon Naengmyeon and Damiok, both famous for their market-style naengmyeon, but I haven't been there yet.

I'll go someday.
