đď¸ Accompany your kids to Seda Buddhist Academyâknow these things in advance to stay calm!
đ Located in Luoruo Town, Seda County, Ganzi Prefecture, at an altitude of 4,000 meters. As the worldâs largest Tibetan Buddhist academy, when bringing kids, enjoy the beautiful scenery and be prepared for altitude sickness protection~
â° 2025 Opening Policy Details
Reservation is key! Daily visitor limit is 3,200 people. Tickets must be booked 3 days in advance via the âYunshang Sedaâ mini program, released promptly at 00:00. Parents, set your alarms! Tickets cost 30 yuan and include sightseeing bus rides, making it very cost-effective for family trips~
Note visiting hours: 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The sightseeing bus goes directly to the mandala and allows a 40-minute stop, so you can leisurely enjoy the red houses with your kids; night views are only for guests staying at Larong Hotel, with lights on after 9:30 PM. The nighttime Buddhist academy is incredibly magical~
Special reminder! Drones are strictly prohibited throughout the area. Violations will result in fines and confiscation of equipment. Donât let your kids cross this red line~
đ¸ Best Family Photo Spots (No Reservation Needed)
Hill behind the sky burial platform: A 30-minute hike. Navigate to âSky Burial Platformâ and follow the dirt road uphill. You can capture panoramic shots of the academy. Hiking with kids also helps build stamina and is a good opportunity to teach about Tibetan culture~
Zhiqinggou Viewing Platform: Official buses stop here. The sunrise and sunset light and shadows are stunning, but the stop is short, so quickly snap photos with your kids~
West side of the mandala circumambulation path: Dense red houses, perfect for family cultural photos. However, photo equipment requirements are higher, so parents should prepare in advance~
â ď¸ Tips to Avoid Pitfalls with Kids
Donât trust âlocal guidesâ! The back mountain paths are strictly checked, and getting caught results in a 200-500 yuan fine. Itâs safer to stick to official routes with kids~
Sky burial platform etiquette must be followed: No photography, no loud noises, and no masks allowed as a sign of respect for Tibetan culture. If your child is sensitive to smells, prepare peppermint oil in advance~
Be alert to altitude sickness! At over 4,000 meters, donât let kids run vigorously. Carry ibuprofen and oxygen bottles to ensure their health~
đ Dongga Monastery | A Lesser-Known Temple to Visit with Kids
đ Located 6 km west of Seda County, a Nyingma sect temple on Jinma Grassland, away from the hustle and bustle. Bring your kids to experience the peaceful atmosphere~
đ Three Must-Do Family Experiences
Golden Roof Main Hall: Houses a thousand-year-old Shakyamuni statue, magnificent and golden. You can sit quietly with your kids to meditate and cultivate focus, but photography is prohibited~
Grassland Prayer Flag Array: Giant prayer flags on the monasteryâs back hill. When the wind blows, it sounds like chanting. Let your kids feel this awe and learn about Tibetan culture~
Free Viewing Platform: Navigate to âDongga Monastery Back Hillâ to reach it. From the top, you can see the Seda River and snow-capped mountains. At sunset, the grassland glows goldenâperfect for kids to enjoy breathtaking views~

Best time: Early morning 7:00-9:00 AM to hear monks chanting, creating a sacred atmosphere for kids to experience unique religious culture~
âď¸ Important Notes for Traveling with Kids
Dress code: Remove hats before entering the temple, no short skirts or shorts. Prepare long pants and long sleeves for kids; circumambulate prayer wheels clockwise and teach kids to respect local customs~
Cultural respect: Donât photograph monksâ faces without permission, and donât touch Buddha statues. Set a good example for your kids~
Accommodation options: Larong Hotel inside the academy is basic but offers night views; Seda Grand Hotel in Seda County has oxygen rooms, around 300+ yuan/night, more comfortable for kids and helps prevent altitude sickness~
đ Tips for Traveling with Kids
The allowed activity area in Seda is quite small, and many places are off-limits. Parents should plan the itinerary carefully for kids~
It takes at least half an hour by sightseeing bus from Luoruo to the academy. The bus only allows 1 hour of visit time, which is not enough to explore~
Two solutions: First, start early. Although the bus leaves after 1 hour, you can catch the next one; second, hike down to the foot of the mountain and take a bus back to town, but this is very tiring. For kids, the first option is better~
When returning by sightseeing bus, be sure to choose a window seat! Record a video on your phone. The bus passes through the entire academy on the way down, and the buildings along the way are stunning. Capture this unforgettable moment with your kids together~
