Every time I visited the Garden Hotel before, it was always for the outdoor fountain and vintage architecture. But this stay, I truly felt its refinement.
The room features a low-key retro style, with details that showcase the elegance of old Shanghai. Outside the window are the plane trees of Maoming Road, and just a wall away is the bustling Huaihai Road.
I unexpectedly discovered that the rooftop garden on the third floor of the hotel is even more worth lingering in.
At the "Night Blooming Jasmine Main Bar," the afternoon sunlight slants over the rattan chairs and hydrangeas. Ordering a white chocolate matcha cake paired with a pot of black tea, time seems to slow down.
Even better after nightfall! Amazing! Order a special cocktail and enjoy the city’s night breeze on the terrace.
For dinner, I chose the hotel’s long-established Japanese restaurant, which has been open for over twenty years. The ingredients and craftsmanship still maintain high standards. The weekend kaiseki set is very good value, especially the sea urchin salmon clay pot rice and grilled black cod—simple yet skillful.
Staying here feels like holding a key to switch the city’s rhythm—between lively and peaceful, all in a moment’s thought.
