Shanghai W Hotel review 3 months late ✨ The view is amazing but you need to adjust your expectations!

#ShanghaiHotel

I stayed at the Shanghai W three months ago, and I'm finally writing my review today 😂 I'm a Titanium member and stayed on Thursday, my birthday. I booked two weeks in advance with 44,000 points and requested it via email. They replied that they would arrange a Fantasy Suite in the 10s, but that check-in might be late.

The upgraded rooms at Tanji are truly spectacular, so I understand why they have such strict due diligence! I arrived at 4:30 PM to check in, but was told to wait until 5:30 PM. When I returned at 5:30 PM, my room still wasn't ready... They suggested I go to the Platinum and above member-only cocktail hour starting at 6:00 PM, and finally got my room key at 6:30 PM 😭

The view from Room 3110 was truly stunning! Unobstructed by the neighboring buildings, I could see the Bund buildings in the distance, and the mirrors on both sides of the window allowed me to see the reflection of the Bund. ✨ The bed was comfortable, but electric curtains and Dysons are to be expected at this price point. The room's colors, textures, and amenities were disappointing... My birthday present was cake and champagne, but no fruit. I wasn't prompted to check out until 4:30 PM, which may be another reason for the late check-in.

The breakfast was really good! I arrived early and sat on the terrace, and it wasn't too hot. The view was amazing! The selection was plentiful and delicious. Cocktail time also offered a wide variety of free snacks (sandwiches, cheese, ham, etc.) and drinks—both of which were highly praised!

The location is on the North Bund, with Magnolia Square below and the North Bund Vinale Green across the street, making it perfect for an evening stroll. The Bund is a 10-minute taxi ride away. The public areas are club-like and photography is allowed, the gym is well-equipped, and the open-air pool is unique. The service was on par with Wandofeng. I received a custom room key and, upon checkout, requested two suitcase tags.

Summary: If you're looking for a view, the Shanghai W will satisfy, but lower your expectations for everything else! One night is sufficient. The Fantasy Suite is OK if it's under 3,000 RMB, but if it exceeds that, it's not worth it. Members can request it on weekdays, and non-members should consider a guaranteed upgrade or double room. Compared to Kamome Ridge, the location and view are on par, the breakfast is W-ranked, and the rooms and service are overwhelmingly better!
