A Day Tour of Off-the-Beaten-Path Attractions ~ Jiaohua Jiading

Stroll through the scholarly atmosphere of Jiading, a low-key town in Jiangnan that hides many cultural treasures. Today, let's explore the soul landmarks of "Jiaohua Jiading" and feel the thousand-year-old Confucian charm!

The first stop must be the Confucius Temple, where the statue of Confucius stands quietly among red walls and black tiles. Standing before the stone carvings of the 72 sages, you can almost hear the chanting of students from the past. When passing through the Lingxing Gate, remember to touch the door nails, as it is said to bring a bit of the literary star's talent~ (Address: No. 183, South Street, Jiading District, Open 8:30-16:30)

A 10-minute walk along Zhouqiao Old Street brings you to Fahua Pagoda! This square, seven-story pagoda, known as the "Brush of Jiading," is especially charming on rainy days. Looking up at the pagoda from below, the flying eaves and upturned corners appear faintly in the mist. Remember to wear non-slip shoes when climbing; the spiral staircase is a bit steep, but from the top floor, you can see the blue-tiled roofs of the entire old town of Jiading~ (Address: No. 349, South Street, Open 8:30-17:00)
Here, there is also an exhibition room dedicated to Mr. Gu Weijun and Mr. Hu Juewen, showcasing their life stories, personal belongings, and honors.
Mr. Gu, the most famous diplomat of his time, was the first to say "no" to the Western powers at the Paris Peace Conference and the first to make the world say "yes" to China, which is truly admirable. He received a good education from childhood and was proficient in English, laying the foundation for his legendary life.
Mr. Hu was passionate about qin (zither), chess, calligraphy, and painting. The exhibition room houses many of his calligraphic works, sometimes sweeping like an army, sometimes blooming with exquisite brushwork, showing that Mr. Hu was also well-educated and knowledgeable.
A walk in Jiading lets you effortlessly experience why "Jiaohua Jiading" lives up to its name.

Tips:
1. Jiading Old Town is best explored on foot; comfortable flat shoes are recommended.
2. A combined ticket for the Confucius Temple and Fahua Pagoda is more cost-effective.
3. Try the Caotou Tabing (herb pancake) and Luohan vegetarian noodles on Zhouqiao Old Street.
4. Avoid visiting on Mondays, as both attractions are closed.

If you get tired, we recommend having a cup of tea at the Tayuan Study. From the glass room, you can see the full view of Fahua Pagoda. Listening to the rain and watching the pagoda here is especially soothing~ The gentle elegance and scholarly atmosphere of Jiangnan blend perfectly in this small town.
