It is one of the deepest canyons in the world and one of the ten most beautiful canyons in China. The south bank of the Tiger Leaping Gorge Scenic Area is Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and the north bank is Haba Snow Mountain. Tightly bound by the high mountains on both sides, the river is only 50 meters wide after flowing into the gorge. The narrowest part is so narrow that a tiger or leopard can jump over it in one leap, hence the name Tiger Leaping Gorge.
