Nanhua Temple is located in the southeast suburb of Maba Town, Qujiang District, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province. Nanhua Temple was first built in the first year of Tianjian in the Liang Dynasty of the Northern and Southern Dynasties (502 AD), and was later renamed "Zhongxing Temple" and "Faquan Temple". In the first year of Kaibao Period of Song Dynasty (968), Emperor Taizu of Song Dynasty granted the name "Nanhua Zen Temple". Nanhua Temple is an important ancient Buddhist temple in China and the birthplace of Zen Buddhism promoted by the Sixth Patriarch Huineng. The Sixth Patriarch Huineng preached at Nanhua Temple for 37 years and played an extremely important role in the inheritance and dissemination of Zen Buddhism, which is known as the "ancestral temple of Zen Buddhism."
Nanhua Temple, this holy Buddhist place, is not only the place where Huineng, the sixth patriarch of Zen Buddhism, preached, but also a holy Buddhist place known as the "crown of Lingnan Zen temples" and "the first mountain in Lingnan".
