Take the Shaoxing Line 1 from Hangzhou's Guniangqiao Station to Luxun Station, and you'll be greeted by the breathtaking Jiangnan waterside charm. Unlike Suzhou and Hangzhou, Shaoxing embodies Lu Xun's uniquely cold, "stoic face facing thousands of accusations" and carefree, "hiding in a small building, at peace, oblivious to winter, summer, spring, and autumn."
I stayed at a youth hostel near the station in Shaoxing, and it was surprisingly well-integrated with the Nanjia Bookstore, right next to Fuhe Street. It felt very much like a local lifestyle. Turning the corner, I found a small shop filled with elementary school students, a truly authentic and down-to-earth experience.
