In spring, Fuzhi Mountain is a hidden terraced wonderland in the heart of Jiangnan. A 2.5-hour drive from Shanghai brings you to the Fuzhi Mountain scenic area in Lingnan Township, Shangyu, Shaoxing. The mountain's name originates from the Eastern Jin Dynasty poet Xie Lingyun's anecdote of "drinking and overturning his cup (fuzhi)."
The highlight of Fuzhi Mountain's terraces lies on its northern slope, where over 2,300 acres of terraced fields, dating back a thousand years, cling to the mountainside. During the spring bloom of rapeseed flowers, a golden sea cascades down the mountain, resembling the strings of a giant earth-bound harp. The lines of the terraces are dynamic, rarely straight, winding around the mountain like contour lines, each uniquely shaped. The panoramic view from the observation deck is truly magnificent.
