Endured Shenzhen and back, really don’t recommend coming in August

Preparation (Anti-“Suffering” Guide)

• Documents: ID card📄, student ID (half price at Window of the World and other attractions!)

• Clothing: Shenzhen in August is melting hot🌞! Quick-dry shirts👚 + shorts🩳 + holey shoes👟 are the standard, bring a sun-protective jacket🧥 (air-conditioned rooms save lives); don’t forget your swimsuit👙, playing in the sea is super refreshing

• Other items: Sunscreen🧴 (SPF50+ and apply generously), small fan🌬️, sun umbrella☂️, cooling sleeves🧊, hydrating spray (spray every hour), Huoxiang Zhengqi liquid (prevents heatstroke)

Transportation Guide (Traffic Avoidance Tips)

• External transport:

◦ Fly to Shenzhen Bao’an Airport✈️, take Metro Line 11 for 40 minutes to downtown, faster than taxi (rush hour is heavily congested)

◦ High-speed train to Shenzhen North Station🚄, Metro Line 5 goes directly to Futian/Nanshan, super convenient

• City transport:

◦ Metro covers everywhere! Use the “Shenzhen Metro” app to scan🚇, avoid rush hours (don’t go out 7:30-9:00)

◦ Choose “Didi Express” for taxis🚕, August has many heavy rains, taxi fares increase on rainy days

◦ Ride shared bikes🛵 around urban villages, super comfortable after 5 pm, enjoy the breeze and street views

3 Days 2 Nights “Heat-Resistant” Itinerary

Day 1: Collision of Mountains, Sea, and City

📍 Yangmeikeng: Get up early! Arrive before 7 am to watch the sunrise🌅, take a speedboat to Luzui Villa (filming location of "The Mermaid"), the sea is so blue it looks filtered, no need to edit photos at all
📍 Shuitou Sha Seafood Street: Lunch with freshly caught seafood🦞, steamed flower crab and mantis shrimp are the freshest, about 80 RMB per person to eat until full, remember to ask the boss to add more ice
📍 Window of the World: Enter after 4 pm! Avoid the scorching sun🌞, stay until evening to watch the light show, taking silhouette photos under the Eiffel Tower is super romantic
📍 Happy Coast: Evening stroll along Water Street, watch the musical fountain⛲, eat “Old Changsha Stinky Tofu” with ice-cold beer, the evening breeze is very pleasant

Day 2: Blend of Art and Nightlife

📍 Shenzhen Bay Park: Morning bike ride🚲, from the mangroves to Talent Park, watch egrets skim the sea, the 7 am sea breeze is cool and refreshing
📍 Nantou Ancient City: Morning walk along Ming and Qing dynasty city walls🏰, check in at “Zizai” movable type printing experience shop, have an iced Americano to recharge☕
📍 Dongmen Old Street: Lunch at “Apo Well” dessert shop, green bean soup + kelp green bean jelly combo, so cold it makes your teeth hurt, that’s the real taste
📍 OCT Creative Culture Park: Afternoon hideout at “Old Paradise Bookstore”📖, see exhibitions and enjoy air conditioning, take sunset photos on the rooftop in the evening
📍 Gangxia Village Night Market: Go at night! Eat “Zhanjiang grilled oysters” (10 RMB for 6), “Liuzhou Luosifen”🌶️, experience the lively urban village atmosphere

Day 3: Island and Night View Celebration

📍 Dongchong Island: Take a boat to the island🏝️, snorkel to see coral fish🐠, lie on the beach chair listening to the waves, lunch on sea urchin fried rice made by locals
📍 Kingkey 100 Tower: Afternoon climb for panoramic views, the glass skywalk is scary but the view is amazing, you can see Hong Kong’s New Territories
📍 Ping An Finance Center Light Show: Best at 8 pm! The skyscraper is dressed in flowing light armor, you won’t get enough even if your phone battery dies from taking photos

Food Recommendations (Cooling Edition)

• “Chen Pengpeng Goose Rice Restaurant”: Chilled marinated goose🦢, paired with sour plum juice to cut the grease, goose skin is chewy and bouncy

• “Baheli Haiji Beef Hotpot”: Hand-beaten beef balls + satay sauce, eating hotpot in an air-conditioned room is the right way to enjoy August

• “Deng Family Traditional Pastry Shop”: Green bean cake + red bean paste🍧, freshly made and sold, super refreshing from the freezer

• “Cha Li Yi Shi”: Gardenia coconut milk🥥, less sugar and ice, Shenzhen exclusive must-try

Photo Tips (Avoid Strong Light)

• Yangmeikeng: Take side-face photos 10 minutes after sunrise, backlit hair glows; rent a transparent small boat to shoot in the shallow water

• Shenzhen Bay: Take photos at Talent Park’s “Carefree Plaza” at 6 pm, the sunset dyes the “Spring Bamboo Shoot” building golden red

• OCT Creative Culture Park: Wear a white shirt and shoot in front of the red brick wall, use leaves as foreground to block sunlight

• Ping An Finance Center: Use night mode during the light show, take continuous shots and pick the brightest moment

Pitfall Guide (Suffer Less)

❌ Don’t go to Dameisha in August! It’s crowded like dumplings in a pot, Yangmeikeng/Dongchong are less crowded and more scenic
❌ Don’t impulsively buy electronics at Huaqiangbei! The waters are deep, just stroll the digital street to feel the vibe
❌ Don’t buy ice drinks at attractions! Convenience store “old popsicles” cost 1 RMB each, same cooling effect
❌ Don’t hike on rainy days! Wutong Mountain has frequent thunderstorms in August, switch to shopping malls (MixC/One Avenue are great)

Accommodation Suggestions (Cool Choices)

• Futian CBD Hotels: 300-500 RMB/night, metro access + good air conditioning, recommend “Shenzhen Galaxy Ritz-Carlton” (high cost performance)

• Yantian Seaview B&B: 500-800 RMB/night, sea view from the window, some with balcony bathtubs🛁, fall asleep listening to the waves at night

• Nanshan Science Park Apartments: 200-400 RMB/night, near Creative Park, many young people, 24-hour convenience store downstairs

Shenzhen in August is hot enough to want to escape, but when the sea breeze lifts your skirt, the sunset fills the sky, and ice drinks clink— you’ll understand: this little “suffering” is worth it!🌊
