[Shizuoka🇯🇵] A summer day in Shimoda☀️

Shimoda is located in the south of the Izu Peninsula.

It's famous for Perry's Black Ships.

There aren't many tourists, so it's perfect for a weekend trip from Tokyo 😉

Here's a day to spend in Shimoda~

① Shimoda Port (photos 1, 8, and 9)

The port where Perry's Black Ships arrived at the end of the Edo period ⚓️

It's recommended to stroll around this historic port town.

There are local shops and a monument to Perry.

At Shimoda Port, you can take an Izu Cruise and tour the port like the Black Ships of the past 🚢

I hope you enjoy the 20-minute tour 🤍

② Perry Road (photo 6)

It's named Perry Road because it's the road Perry and his men took to sign the Shimoda Treaty, the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan.

The houses lined up along the river are characterized by their namako walls.

These namako-walled houses have been turned into cafes and restaurants, so you can experience the old-fashioned atmosphere! ! Just walking around the town makes you feel like you've traveled back in time to the Edo or Meiji era.

③ Ryosenji Temple (7th photo)
Ryosenji Temple is known as the temple where the Japan-US Shimoda Treaty was signed.
Exchanges between Japan and the US began at this temple.
It is also known as the Jasmine Temple because the purple jasmine flowers bloom in abundance around the end of Golden Week in May.
I visited the temple in mid-May without knowing, and the temple was dyed purple and it was very beautiful!

Please go and feel the history of Shimoda!

④ Shirahama Ohama Beach (2nd and 3rd photos)
Shirahama has pure white sand and blue sea.
The water is quite clear and very beautiful.
Many people visit in the summer and enjoy swimming in the sea.

Not only the sea, but also the torii gates stand, so you can take pictures of the beautiful sea ✖︎ torii ⛩️ scenery.
It's the perfect place for the coming summer!

⑤ Kanaya Ryokan (photos 4 and 5)
Kanaya Ryokan was founded in 1867 and has a long history.
It is a ryokan with a wonderful atmosphere where you can feel the history from the end of the Edo period.
It is famous for its Sennin-buro (bath for 1,000 people), and you can visit as a day trip hot spring♨️
Of course, I recommend staying overnight and tasting the seafood dishes.
It will be a relaxing day where you can relieve your daily fatigue!

Shimoda is a surprisingly hidden gem.
Have a relaxing holiday 🙌
