When talking about famous historical sites in Tainan City, you will definitely think of #ChihkanTou. In addition to visiting historical relics, the alleys around ChihkanTou are also worth visiting. The archway, old houses and characteristic bars have formed a unique Chihkan business district. Whether it is Chihkan East Street or Xinmei Street, there are different flavors during the day and at night.
Chihkan Tower, which has a history of more than 300 years, was originally the #ProvintiaFortress built by the Dutch and was the administrative and commercial center at that time. Over the years, Chihkan Tower has evolved from a Western-style castle in the Dutch era to a Chinese-style attic in the Qing Dynasty, an army hospital in the Japanese colonial era, and now has red tiles and towering buildings. It can be said that it has witnessed the historical evolution of Tainan for more than 300 years.
The main building, the Temple of the Sea God and the Wenchang Pavilion, are both double-eaved hip-and-gable rooftop buildings with magnificent roofs. The Beishi Stele and stone tablets are also classic scenes of the Chihkan Tower, which were donated by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. In addition, there are the Penghu Academy and Dutch ruins, and there are light shows and performances from time to time on weekend evenings.
Chihkan Street and Chihkan East Street on both sides are lined with snack shops and bars, and even the Chinese medicine store has been transformed into a popular bar! Xinmei Street nearby is an ancient rice street with many intricate alleys. It has now become a favorite adventure spot for tourists.
The small alleys in Tainan always give people unexpected surprises.
