Taipei's Beitou Thermal Valley, located in the Shilin District, is renowned for its natural geothermal resources. This spot is not only a natural wonder but also an excellent place for visitors to learn about geothermal energy and its applications.
### Transportation
Getting to the Thermal Valley is quite convenient. We took the MRT to Beitou Station and then transferred to Xinbeitou Station, which is just one stop away. Note that trains to Xinbeitou are less frequent, so you might have to wait about twenty minutes for one.
### Location and Scenery
After getting off the MRT, it's about a twenty-minute walk to the Thermal Valley according to the map. The main feature of the Thermal Valley is its abundant geothermal resources, with water temperatures reaching up to 80 degrees Celsius. You can often see white steam slowly rising, giving the entire valley a mysterious atmosphere.
In the Thermal Valley, visitors can observe the natural emergence of geothermal spring water and experience the unique sulfur smell. These odors come from the underground hot spring system, which brings rich minerals. The area has trails for visitors to explore deeply, and there are also informational signs providing extensive knowledge about the formation of geothermal energy and the ecological environment. Surrounded by green mountains, the environment of Taipei's Beitou Thermal Valley is serene, making you feel like you're in a fairyland.
There are also many attractions near the Thermal Valley, such as the Hot Spring Museum. If you have any questions about nearby attractions, there is a tourist information center inside Xinbeitou MRT Station where staff are eager to help.
