🎨 Limited-time offer during the Chang Yung-fa Foundation Art Festival! If you haven't seen the previous post, check out my homepage first! For a recommended tour route, start from the fifth floor. Let me introduce it by category below 🫶🏻
🪝 Second Floor | Navigation Exploration Zone
This floor is like a "navigation training base"!
You can operate various nautical instruments and simulation devices,
learning how ships determine direction and how to locate themselves using stars and maps.
Children can experience the fun of steering a ship, and adults can try to guide a ship safely to port. The walls display the evolution of navigation technology from ancient times to the present,
from early compasses and sextants to modern GPS navigation systems,
allowing you to witness step by step the wisdom and courage of humankind in conquering the ocean.
📸 Remember to take plenty of photos; this floor has the most interactive experiences! Adults will also find it fun!
⸻
🖼️ Third Floor | Marine Art & Ocean Taiwan Area
Upon entering the third floor, the atmosphere immediately becomes serene and gentle.
The walls are adorned with paintings depicting marine imagery, from towering waves in a storm to shimmering harbors at sunset.
You'll feel as if you're sailing within a painting,
each stroke of the wave holding the story and sentiment of a seafarer.
(Highly recommended for those who love taking Instagram-worthy photos at the museum)
On the other side is the "Ocean Taiwan Area," themed around Taiwan's maritime culture,
introducing how early settlers explored unknown shores using sails, tides, and stars.
From indigenous canoes and Qing Dynasty merchant ships to modern port development,
here, you'll deeply understand that Taiwan is indeed an island embraced by the ocean.
⸻
⚓ Fourth Floor | Modern Ships & Special Exhibitions
This floor is a dreamland for boys—a collection of all kinds of modern cargo ships, warships, and cruise ships!
You can admire the grandeur of the "Yamato" battleship up close,
and see a classic replica of the "Titanic." Each ship is so detailed that even the decks, lifeboats, and funnels are clearly visible.
It's unbelievable that this museum has such a large collection of ship models!
⸻
🚢 Fifth Floor | World Ships Exhibition
The soul of the entire museum.
Here, you can admire classic ship types from all over the world and from all eras:
From ancient Egyptian papyrus boats and Viking longships,
to the majestic warships of the European sailing era and the treasure ships of China.
Each model is meticulously crafted,
as if telling the story of maritime trade, exploration, and conquest.
Soft lighting bathes the display cases, illuminating the ships that carry dreams, as if whispering, "The story of the ocean never ends." We recommend starting your visit from the fifth floor, following the designated route downwards,
like embarking on a journey through maritime history 🌊
⸻
🌊 Who is this place for?
Whether you're a sailing enthusiast, a warship collector, an art and culture lover, or a child brimming with curiosity about the ocean,
you'll find something to learn here!
Even university students (or graduates) like myself, who didn't know much about the ocean before, learned a great deal about ships, navigation, and maritime culture after the visit—it's truly worthwhile!
