The Circus of Living Creatures: Rats, Termites, Rabbits, Foxes, Mice, Deer, and Flies—A Solo Exhibition by Zhang Xu

Located in front of Children's Park No. 15 (Cake Park) in Taitung City, the Taitung Art Museum is the only exhibition space in eastern Taiwan dedicated to art. Spanning an area of 3.96 hectares, the museum features outdoor lawns showcasing various installation artworks by artists, making it a popular leisure and activity space for both locals and tourists. The museum consists of two main buildings, divided into Phase I and Phase II galleries. The Phase I gallery is primarily used for exhibitions and collections, including the Mountain Song and Sea Dance exhibition halls, as well as a display garden, sculpture courtyard, administrative area, conference room, and storage room. The Phase II gallery is designed as a multifunctional space, featuring a cultural and creative classroom, an art-themed restaurant, a creative industry shop, a residency artist workshop, and a lounge area. The museum frequently hosts special exhibitions and permanent displays related to local culture. During this visit, the current special exhibition, "The Circus of Living Creatures: Rats, Termites, Rabbits, Foxes, Mice, Deer, and Flies—A Solo Exhibition by Zhang Xu," was on display, so I purchased a ticket to explore it. The ticket prices are very affordable considering today's cost of living: General admission (some exhibitions require a fee) is NT$50 for the public, NT$20 for children under 12, seniors over 65, students, and Taitung residents with proof of ID, NT$30 per person for groups of 10 or more, and free admission for children under 2, seniors over 65, and individuals with disabilities. The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM and 1:30 PM–5:00 PM, and is closed on Mondays and public holidays. The outdoor green space is open year-round. This venue not only provides a space for activities and relaxation but also highlights Taitung's commitment to culture and art. Through the various exhibitions held at the museum, visitors can enjoy a wonderful blend of life and art in this uniquely Taitung setting.
