Clockwise

I stepped through the main gate of Labrang early at dawn. The air was bone chilling with the sun still hiding behind the surrounding mountains which look like massive camel humps.
The only sounds were the creaking of the prayer wheels and the footsteps of the pilgrims doing the kora. A Kora is a clockwise circumambulation of a holy place, in Tibetan Buddhism, in this case Labrang, one of the largest Buddhist monasteries outside Lhasa.
When I started the kora, the sun peeked over the ridges, it’s reflection from the many temple towers sending golden arrows through the small cobblestone alleyways.
Labrang is a must see if you want to experience authentic Tibetan culture, explore one of the largest and historically significant Buddhist lamaseries, try the delicious yak yogurt and momo.
