Yashima Aquarium at the top of a mountain, 300m above sea level!

Yashima Aquarium

This rare aquarium is located on top of a mountain, at an elevation of just 300 meters!

While it's not large, it's compact and easy to navigate.

As a well-established aquarium, the exterior and facilities are a little dated, but the rarity of the species kept, the exhibits, and the characteristics of each tank are clearly explained, making it a great choice for families with small children!

It also houses a pair of West Indian manatees, rare in Japan (there are only six of them in Japan!).
Their large bodies and unique, slow-moving appearance were captivating to the children.
