We visited Hida Kokubun-ji on a quiet morning, and it turned out to be one of the most peaceful and picturesque spots in Takayama. Tucked away in a modest compound, this ancient temple offers a lovely dose of history and tranquility without the crowds.
The surroundings were calm and serene, making it perfect for a slow stroll and some quiet reflection. We took our time exploring and ended up capturing quite a few beautiful photos—there’s a timeless charm to the place that really comes through in the light of the early day.
One of the highlights was the ancient ginkgo tree right in the center of the grounds. Said to be over 1,200 years old, its massive trunk and towering presence are truly impressive. It felt like a living guardian of the temple, quietly witnessing the centuries go by.
Verdict:
Hida Kokubun-ji may be small, but it offers a peaceful break from the tourist hustle. With its scenic beauty and historical depth, it’s well worth a short visit—especially in the calm of the morning.
