Officially opened in 1980, Shihe Park boasts 146,100 square meters of green space, including 151,100 square meters of greenery, representing 88.86% of the park's total area. In 2001, it was recognized as a "provincial-level standard park" by the Provincial Department of Construction. On May 1, 2002, it officially opened to the public with free admission and now welcomes 1.5 million visitors annually.
The park features five functional areas: a children's play area, a water recreation area, a sightseeing and leisure area, an animal viewing area, and a senior citizen activity center. The park is adorned with lush bamboo and trees, fountains, and features a rose garden, plum garden, cherry blossom garden, and osmanthus garden. It is a popular leisure destination for Xinyang residents.
The park's eastern Green Lake features three artificial islands planted with pine and maple trees, creating a vibrant contrast between red and green. The park's zoo showcases a variety of rare animals and birds. Children and young adults can enjoy a variety of recreational facilities, including a small roller coaster and a pirate ship. The park's extensive tree cover ensures fresh air in the summer, perfect for morning exercise.
The climate in Xihe Park is transitioning from subtropical monsoon climate to warm temperate climate. In spring, the roses are red, in summer, the lotus flowers fill the lake, in autumn, the sweet osmanthus fills the garden, and in winter, the plum blossoms bloom against the snow. It is a good place to travel in all four seasons.
