Takayama's Historic Old Street

Located in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, the iconic old street of Kamisan-no-machi is often referred to as "Little Kyoto of Hida Takayama." This area consists of three nearly parallel north-south streets, featuring a variety of unique shops such as sake breweries, traditional miso factories, tea houses, craft stores, and restaurants. Each shop, both inside and out, exudes the rich historical atmosphere of the Edo period, making it a rare and precious collection of ancient architectural structures. Beyond the buildings themselves, the rickshaw service, Gokuraku-sha, boasts a history of over 50 years and is considered the pioneer of Japanese rickshaws. A visit to this old street is incomplete without experiencing a ride on these antique-style rickshaws.
