Tawau, the gateway to Semporna and Sipadan

If you are not short on time and are hesitating whether to overnight in Tawau on your way to Semporna, Mabul, and Sipadan, my suggestion is why not stay 1 night.


The waterfront here is wide and long, which is good for hanging out in the evening and enjoying sunset. There is also a vibrant night market everyday. I tried an iced coffee at Kopi Senja Dan Kamu on a hot day. At the far end of the waterfront lies the magnificent Masjid Al-Khauthar, which is beautifully lit at night.


The town centre where the bus terminal is located consists of historic shophouses with street arts and some statues. It lacks modern shopping malls though in case you would like to escape the heat outside.
