This shrine is where Emperor Yamato Takeru set up camp when he marched east to subjugate the Emishi.
It is said that in 1471, Ota Dokan prayed for victory here.
Within the shrine grounds is the Ota Dokan Reisha, a sub-shrine. It is said that in 1477, during the Battle of Ekodawara Numabukuro, Dokan spent the night at a place where he was guided by a black cat,
overcoming a crisis and winning the battle. Due to this story of Dokan and the cat, Myogi Shrine has placed Komainekko (lion cats) instead of Komainu (lion dogs). They even have paw pads.
Due to their adorable appearance, this shrine is irresistible for cat lovers.
They also have black cat-themed fortune slips, which are highly recommended!
