The Imperial Palace, the home of the Japanese Emperor, and the Imperial Palace Gardens, Chidorigafuchi, etc. are located in the center of Tokyo. The nearest station is Tokyo Station, and it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to walk to the Imperial Palace. Visiting the Imperial Palace may not be suitable for tourists with tight schedules, as it requires advance online reservations or queuing on site to get a number plate. However, places such as the Imperial Palace Outer Gardens, Nijubashi Bridge, the Imperial Palace East Gardens and Kitanomaru Park are open to the public free of charge. The outer area of the Imperial Palace, including the Kita-no-Maru, is approximately 115 hectares. The square in front of the Imperial Palace has a vast green lawn with approximately 2,000 black pines planted on it. Here you can see the "Nijubashi" which has historical and cultural value. There are also highlights such as the Sakurada Gate, which is designated as an important national cultural property, and the bronze statue of the famous military commander Kusunoki Masashige. The Wadakura Fountain Park in Gaien is home to an artistic fountain and a 30-meter-wide artificial waterfall, creating an urban oasis.
Chidorigafuchi is the moat area located in the northwest of the Imperial Palace. Its name comes from its unique shape. The structure of its moat is like a plover (a short-tailed, long-legged bird), which is called Chidori in Japanese. In addition to the main greenway, the 700m-long pedestrian trail from Yasukuni-dori Street to the entrance of Chidorigafuchi War Cemetery is also a very beautiful cherry blossom viewing spot. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, you have to wait for more than 1 to 2 hours to take a cruise, but sliding under the cherry trees is simply a romantic wonderland. There are also the famous night cherry blossoms, which are magnificent with the lights. When the weather is good, even the Tokyo Tower can be captured in the photo.
