Located conveniently close to our hotel in Ikebukuro, Sunshine City was a pleasant surprise—a massive, multi-purpose shopping and entertainment complex that had just about everything we needed under one roof.
Dining & Convenience
The mall boasts a huge selection of dining options, ranging from Japanese casual eateries to international names like Starbucks, making it easy to grab a quick coffee or sit down for a meal. There’s also a convenience store inside, which came in handy for drinks, snacks, and daily essentials.
Cleanliness & Comfort
As expected of Japanese standards, the entire mall was spotless—from its polished floors to its well-maintained washrooms. For smokers, there are designated smoking rooms, which are discreet and ventilated, keeping the main areas fresh and family-friendly.
Shopping Variety
You’ll find a nice mix of Japanese local brands and international stores, from fashion to lifestyle goods. While it’s not a high-end luxury mall, the variety makes it a great stop for casual shopping and souvenir browsing.

Final Verdict
Sunshine City is a spacious, clean, and well-rounded mall in the heart of Ikebukuro. Whether you’re after food, shopping, or just a comfortable place to wander indoors, it delivers in typical Japanese efficiency and hospitality.
