🖼️[Ueno] Special Exhibition "Tsutaya Jūzaburō: The Pioneer of the Content Business"
A large-scale exhibition shedding light on Tsutaya Jūzaburō (1750–97), the "media king" who shook the Edo publishing world. From the Yoshiwara period in Edo to after the move to Nihonbashi, about 250 valuable publications and ukiyo-e prints are displayed in chronological order. Original works of nishiki-e and kyōka books by artists he discovered, such as Utamaro, Sharaku, and Hokusai, are also featured!
The exhibition is structured in the following three chapters:
1. Yoshiwara Period → 2. Expansion to Nihonbashi and Innovation in Kyōka Books → 3. Encounters with Artists and the Golden Age of Ukiyo-e.
🔹 Exhibition Highlights
Many original paintings designated as Important Cultural Properties, including Sharaku’s "Onoe Kikugorō III as Edohei" and Utamaro’s "Girl Blowing a Poppin" 
Introduction of a "crowdfunding-like" publishing strategy that tapped into the psychology of Edo readers 
Experience the atmosphere of Kōshodō with a set reproduction corner linked to the drama "Berabō"

📅 Period: April 22 (Tue) – June 15 (Sun)
🕤 Hours: 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM (open until 8:00 PM every Friday and Saturday / last admission 30 minutes before closing)
🚪 Closed: Mondays (open on April 28 and May 5), closed on May 7
🎟️ Admission: General ¥2,100 (advance ¥1,900), university students ¥1,300 → ¥1,100, high school students ¥900 → ¥700 / free for junior high school students and younger, and persons with disabilities 
📍 Venue: Tokyo National Museum Heiseikan (Ueno Park)

About a 10-minute walk from JR Ueno Station Park Exit / Uguisudani Station South Exit
Subway: Ginza and Hibiya Lines Ueno Station / Chiyoda Line Nezu Station, about 10–15 minutes on foot
