Delicious Shaved Ice from a Long-Established Japanese Confectionery Shop
□ Shimura, Mejiro
📍 Mejiro, Tokyo
About a one-minute walk from JR Mejiro Station.
I enjoyed some excellent shaved ice at this long-established Japanese confectionery shop, founded in 1939.
I've been there before, so this was a return visit.
Reservations can be made by phone or online, but on this day I was lucky enough to get in without a wait. It fills up in the afternoon, so I recommend making a reservation if you're planning an afternoon visit.
Red Bean Paste and Butter Shaved Ice
In addition to shaved ice, they also serve Japanese set meals. While I'm interested in the Japanese set meals, as a shaved ice lover, I always end up ordering the shaved ice.
The shaved ice menu changes seasonally, so check their Instagram.
The red bean paste and butter shaved ice, topped with elegant red bean paste, butter pudding, and walnuts, was absolutely delicious! The walnut paste served separately was also rich. The thick shaved ice was very filling.
I bought Shimura's specialty, Tsukumochi, as a souvenir.
The chewy, jiggly texture is so delicious, it's definitely worth a try as a souvenir.
If you'd like to try the exquisite shaved ice from a long-established Japanese confectionery shop, be sure to stop by!
