Tokyo's local sensibility seeps deep into its alleyways.

Tokyo isn't all about flashy neon signs and tall buildings. The moment I stepped into Yanaka Ginza, I felt as if time had flown backwards. Old-fashioned shops lined the streets, the aroma of handmade snacks filled the alleys, and I could sense the warmth of a neighborhood where everyday life takes precedence over sightseeing.

A line stretched out in front of a small croquette shop, the crispiness of freshly fried croquettes perfect for a quick snack during your trip. The area's nickname, "Cat Alley," meant there were so many cat-themed items that it was fun to browse. Strolling along the streets, the atmosphere of old Japan and the relaxed pace of the streets warmed my heart.

A little further, the Yanesen area—Yanaka, Nezu, and Sendagi—connects, allowing for a leisurely stroll through local cafes, temples, and antique shops. It's the perfect local itinerary, where the quiet daily life of Tokyo coexists with historical landmarks.

Travel Tips
• Most stores accept cash → Be sure to bring cash.
• The atmosphere is best around sunset, when the lights come on.
• Nezu Shrine is accessible by foot for breathtaking views.
• Fewer tourists make for comfortable photo opportunities.

Yanaka Ginza is a precious respite hidden in the glamour of Tokyo. It's the first place that comes to mind when I want to slow down and experience the real Tokyo life.
