For a memorable day trip to see sakura in Towada City, Aomori, head to the famous Official Avenue , a 1.1 km stretch lined with 156 cherry trees that create a stunning floral tunnel in late April. This scenic road, also known as Komakaidō" ,is one of Japan’s "Top 100 Roads" and offers a unique blend of natural beauty and equestrian-themed art installations, reflecting the city’s history as a major horse-trading hub.
For the best views, visit in the evening when the trees are illuminated, casting a magical glow over the street. Nearby, the Towada City Modern Art Museum adds a contemporary twist to the trip, with outdoor sculptures complementing the seasonal beauty. Since Towada’s sakura season peaks in late April,it’s perfect for travelers who miss the earlier blooms in Tokyo or Kyoto. Round out your day with local delicacies like Towada barayaki (grilled beef)or a stroll around Towada Lake, just a short distance away.
Tip: Combine your visit with the Towada Sakura Festival if timing allows, or take the scenic JR bus from Hachinohe Station for easy access.
