A stroll along the Oirase Gorge in the summer is the perfect time to experience the coolness of Aomori's nature with your whole body.
The promenade along the stream that flows out of Lake Towada is shrouded in the green of the trees overhead like a tunnel, creating a refreshingly cool breeze even in midsummer. Along the way, you'll come across a succession of waterfalls and rapids with rich names and expressions, such as Choshi Otaki and Ashura no Nagare, that will have you stopping to take photos.
Walking surrounded by the breeze blowing over the water's surface and the sound of the babbling brook, you'll completely forget the heat and hustle and bustle of the city. If you get tired of walking, take a break on a bench along the stream. Soak a towel in the cool river water and place it around your neck, and nature's air will soothe both your body and mind.
