A Day in Trieste – From Seaside Charm to Hilltop Views

My visit to Trieste was a perfect blend of seaside atmosphere, grand architecture, and a unique ride up into the hills. I started my day strolling along the elegant Piazza Unità d’Italia, surrounded by beautiful historic buildings facing the Adriatic Sea. The calm waters, seagulls, and gentle breeze made for a relaxing introduction to this fascinating Italian city with Austro-Hungarian roots.
After exploring the city center, I decided to try something special – the historic tram ride from Trieste to Opicina. This isn’t just any tram – it’s a steep climb up into the hills, part tramway, part funicular, offering spectacular views over the Gulf of Trieste. As we ascended, the city slowly gave way to greenery and distant sea views, and at the top, I enjoyed a peaceful walk in Opicina with even better panoramas.
Back in Trieste, I visited the Miramare Castle gardens and watched the sunset from the pier. The combination of coastal charm, history, and the unique tram experience made Trieste one of the most surprising and rewarding places I’ve visited.
