I had an experience that felt like I went back in time in Uchiko. It was a temple called *Goshoji (護昌寺)*. It is a Buddhist temple located about an hour away from Matsuyama by car, and it is a small Buddhist temple nestled in a quiet rural village.

It looks ordinary from the outside, but the traditional tiled roof and the quiet scenery of the grounds were really impressive. As you can see in the picture, the temple architecture has a strong Edo period atmosphere, and the mountains and sky spread out to the side blend together to create a truly picturesque scene.

When I visited, the leaves were just starting to change color, so the colorful leaves and the quiet temple scenery went really well together. There was actually a temple bell under the bell tower, and since there weren't many visitors, it was nice to stay quietly.

Goshoji isn't fancy, but it is a place that shows the small charms of Uchiko and the beauty of Japanese tradition. If you are visiting Matsuyama or Uchiko, I highly recommend you stop by. It is a hidden gem where you can heal yourself more because there are not many people around. 🌿
