Swiss Travel: Interlaken from Harder Kulm Viewpoint

[Trip Moment Delivery 🗞️]
On this trip, I visited Harder Kulm, a viewpoint where you can take in the panoramic view of Interlaken and the three peaks of Jungfrau! 🇨🇭🚠🌄

🛄 | Sky-high view in just 10 minutes
Harder Kulm is a viewpoint that can be reached in just 10 minutes by taking the Harderbahn Funicular, which departs near Interlaken Ost train station. Although the ride is short, the incline is quite steep, and as you ascend, the town of Interlaken, Lake Brienz (Brienzersee), and Lake Thun (Thunersee) gradually unfold like a painting outside the window. Upon arrival, the sky-high viewing platform is immediately visible as you step out of the cable car station.

🌿 Panoramic view of two lakes and the Jungfrau trio
The first thing you notice from the viewpoint is the stunning scenery of two lakes and the Alpine peaks. To the left lies the deep blue Lake Thun, to the right the emerald-green Lake Brienz, with the town of Interlaken nestled in between. In the distance, the iconic trio of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau peaks stand in a row, offering a quintessential Swiss landscape. On clear days, the contrast between the snowy white peaks and the turquoise lakes creates a postcard-perfect view.

🏔️ Skywalk experience atop the viewpoint
The highlight of Harder Kulm is the glass-bottomed Skywalk viewing deck. With the cliff visible beneath your feet and the wind passing through, it offers a light thrill. Standing at the edge of the deck, you can clearly see the town of Interlaken and the river below, while the snow-capped Jungfrau stands proudly ahead. Nearby, the Panorama Restaurant Harder Kulm offers warm Swiss hot chocolate or cheese fondue, allowing you to enjoy the mountains and lakes while dining. The scenery changes dramatically depending on the time of day—from vibrant blues during the day to fiery hues at sunset.

✅️ | Travel tips
1️⃣ Route – Depart from the funicular station opposite Interlaken Ost station → Harder Kulm (approximately 10 minutes).
2️⃣ Recommended time – Morning for clear mountain views, afternoon for the most vivid lake colors, and sunset for golden views of Jungfrau.
3️⃣ Clothing tip – The temperature at the summit is about 5–7°C cooler than the town, so bring a light jacket. Be cautious of strong winds at the viewpoint.
4️⃣ Photo spot – The center of the Skywalk’s edge offers the best composition, capturing both lakes and the three peaks.
5️⃣ Dining recommendation – Arrive at the terrace seats of the viewpoint restaurant an hour before sunset to secure the best spot.
