Uruma City is located in the central part of Okinawa's main island.
Last year, Uruma City was declared a Special Zone for Emotional Industries and is home to the World Heritage Site of Katsuren Castle.
Around the time when Sho Hashi unified the three kingdoms and founded the Ryukyu Kingdom,
there was an aji at the Katsuren Castle ruins.
His name was Amawari.
As the aji of Katsuren, Amawari prospered the Katsuren area through trade. Fearing his growing power, the Ryukyu king married his daughter, Momoju Fumiage, to Amawari.
However, Amawari eventually became a rebel and was attacked by Gosamaru and lost his life.
For a long time, Amawari was demonized as a rebel.
He was hailed as a hero locally.
Before long, there were two Amawaris.
It was at this time that a project began to take shape.
A modern Kumiodori performance by junior and senior high school students.
This marked the birth of the modern Kumiodori, "Kitaka no Amawari," which continues to this day, and led to a miraculous performance that has continued for over 20 years since its premiere.
We visited Amawari Park, which introduces the Katsuren Castle Ruins and Amawari, and enjoyed the exhibits and animations, then toured the castle.
On a clear day, you can enjoy a beautiful view from the top of the Katsuren Castle Ruins. β¨
