New Zealand's Cathedral Cove

#holidayitinerary Cathedral Cove near Hahei is straight-up dreamy. You walk through bush trails with ocean peeks along the way, and then, you step onto this beach with golden sand and that giant stone archway that looks like it came out of a movie. The walk from the car park takes about 30 to 40 minutes one way, with a few hills but nothing too crazy. Totally doable in flip-flops, but sneakers are better.
We went early to beat the crowds and had the beach almost to ourselves for a bit. The water was clear and perfect for a quick swim. There are no shops or toilets down at the beach, so hit the facilities at the top before you head down and bring everything you need.
You can also kayak in or take a boat tour if hiking’s not your thing. It’s super popular for a reason, but still feels magical once you're standing under that massive rock arch.
