Upon entering Wakayama Castle Park, the first thing that catches your eye is the imposing, elegant white castle tower. Built in 1585 by Toyotomi Hidenaga, the younger brother of the renowned Warring States general Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the castle later became one of the strongholds of the Tokugawa clan, its historical significance cannot be underestimated.
Ascending the stone steps, past the massive stone walls and gates, I felt like I'd been transported back to the Warring States period. Inside the castle tower, displays of samurai armor, ancient maps, and a model of the castle town offer a deeper understanding of the castle's story. Climbing to the top observation deck, the breathtaking panorama of Wakayama City, the Kinokawa River, and the ocean beyond is breathtaking.
In spring, the castle's cherry blossoms are in full bloom, making it a popular picnic spot for locals. In autumn, the vibrant colors of fall foliage complement the gardens, creating a unique and captivating scene every time you visit.
📍 **Check-in Location**: Wakayama Castle (3 Ichibancho, Wakayama City)
