Lake Tekapo is the heart of a world-class International Dark Sky Reserve. The September night sky was truly breathtaking. A plethora of stars twinkled, almost as if they were pouring down from the city, and the Milky Way was clearly visible with the naked eye. The tour at Mt. John Observatory was especially worth the September TravelSupport. Observing constellations with expert commentary and viewing planets and nebulae through a telescope was an unforgettable scientific experience. The night air is still quite cold in September, so dressing warmly is a must. While the lake is beautiful during the day, Lake Tekapo at night offers a mystical, almost cosmic experience.
