Lake Tekapo is famous for its gorgeous lupines that bloom in late spring and early summer, but September was even better because they hadn't yet bloomed. Visiting when the flowers weren't blooming allowed me to avoid the massive crowds and fully focus on the lake's beauty. Walking anywhere along the lakeshore, I felt as if I had the lake to myself. Lake Tekapo in September has a calm and contemplative atmosphere. Using my September TravelSupport, I rented a car and explored hidden, small viewpoints around the lake.
