🏯 Xi’an City Wall — Cycling Through 600 Years of History

Encircling the heart of Xi’an, the City Wall (西安城墙) is the largest and best-preserved ancient city wall in China, first built during the Ming Dynasty over 600 years ago. Stretching 13.7 km with a height of 12 meters and a width wide enough for five horses to ride abreast, it’s a remarkable blend of military defense and architectural beauty.

One of the best ways to experience it is by renting a bicycle and riding the full loop — it takes about 1.5–2 hours at a leisurely pace. Along the way, you’ll pass watchtowers, gates, and views of both ancient streets inside and the modern skyline outside.

The wall is especially beautiful in the evening when the lanterns light up and the city glows under the night sky. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather for exploring.

💡 Tips:
• 📍 Main entrances: South Gate (Yongning Gate) and East Gate are the most popular.
• 🎟️ Entry fee applies; bike rental available on top of the wall.
• 🌇 Visit near sunset for golden light and stay for the night views.
• 👟 Wear comfy shoes — even walking part of the wall is a great experience.
