Many friends visiting Xichang wonder whether to visit Lushan Mountain.
Although less famous than Lushan in Jiangxi, as a local, I want to say

▫️Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian temples from Tang, Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties are scattered across the mountain, with buildings of different eras and beliefs coexisting harmoniously in the forest - a rare sight elsewhere
▫️Don't miss the earthquake stele forest next to Guangfu Temple. The inscriptions on bluestone slabs record stories of time, offering a more authentic sense of history compared to Xi'an's famous Stele Forest
▫️The Yi Slave Society Museum is worth a 30-minute visit. Though small, it quickly introduces you to Liangshan's cultural context
▫️The Nine-Dragon Han Cypress behind Guangfu Temple is interesting - a 2,000-year-old tree that looks like a natural work of art

1️⃣Cable car enthusiasts can take a one-way ride up (careful if you fear heights). The semi-open vintage cable car sways gently for 20 minutes, offering gradually expanding views of Lake Qionghai
2️⃣For descending, try the spiral slide. Touch the low-hanging branches as you pass through the pine forest, and enjoy the perfect amount of centrifugal force at the turns
3️⃣Stay calm in monkey-populated areas and don't take out snacks in front of them (don't ask how I know)

→ Hiking up takes about 1.5 hours; wear non-slip shoes as the stone path is steep
→ Morning mist creates the most ethereal atmosphere, while afternoon sunlight through temple eaves makes great photos
→ There's a teahouse halfway up for rest
→ The slide entrance and sightseeing bus station are in different locations, check the route in advance

Nearby attractions: Qionghai Wetland is a 15-minute walk from the mountain base. In the evening, find a smoky barbecue stall near the ancient city wall for a perfect local's day out
