a holy sunrise...

Waking up and coming to see the Big Buddha and the temple is a must-do activity when you visit Xishuangbanna in Yunnan Province. Coming first thing, and avoiding the queues is advised, also other benefits are the rising sun behind the Buddha and the less intense heat, although it'll probably still be very humid! To get here, you will need a private car. You can rent your own or hire a driver. This attraction can be done in just an hour or two and in conjunction with other nearby attractions, therefore saving time and money. Once you arrive, and buy tickets, you will need to climb many steps to reach the top of the mountain. Along the way, you will come across ornate temples and stupas, decorated in a southeast Asian style. Eventually at the top, you can loook back down on then adjacent valley and it's beauty. The Big Buddha itself glistens in the morning sun and is spectacular! Be advised you need passports for getting in here, so make sure you bring these if you are a foreigner.
