Just a few kilometers from touristy Lijiang is Shuhe, a peaceful and beautifully preserved ancient town. I stayed in a courtyard guesthouse, wandered along cobblestone alleys, and listened to soft Naxi music while sipping Pu’er tea. The canals, lanterns, and laid-back pace made it one of the most relaxing parts of my Yunnan trip. It’s like Lijiang’s quieter, older cousin.
