🚶This route is incredibly family-friendly—covering karst landforms, alpine meadows, Danxia wonders, and cave exploration all in one. The two-day itinerary balances activity and rest perfectly, keeping the kids excited throughout.
🌄Trip Highlights
🌿Shengwangping’s alpine meadows truly deserve the title of "the largest subalpine meadow in North China." Standing at the 1888-meter-high plateau, surrounded by peaks, the grass has started to yellow in October, but it offers a magnificent golden autumn view.
🐮Niangniang Pool (also known as Yaochi) has crystal-clear, mirror-like water and is the best scenic spot in Shengwangping. The kids saw cows grazing leisurely here and excitedly imitated their mooing.
🌈The Danxia landforms at Hongshaling are breathtaking. The blood-red sandstone grains shine brilliantly under the sun, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding green vegetation.
📝Practical Information
📅Itinerary:
🚗Day 1: Depart from Zhengzhou → Hike at Shengwangping → Explore Heilong Cave
🔄Day 2: Shengwangping → Hongshaling Danxia Wonders → Return trip
🧭Navigation and Tickets:
📍Locate Shengwangping Scenic Area as "Xichengshan Shengwangping Scenic Area." It’s about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Jiyuan, 2 hours from Luoyang, and 3 hours from Zhengzhou.
💰Currently, the ticket for Shengwangping plus the shuttle bus is about 70 RMB (Hongshaling has no ticket fee).
🚶Hiking Difficulty:
🌳Shengwangping has wooden boardwalks throughout, with gentle slopes. It takes about 20-30 minutes from the parking lot to the meadow, making it very suitable for family hiking. The Hongshaling hike is about 1.5 kilometers and not very difficult.
💡Helpful Tips
☀️1. Shengwangping is at high altitude with strong UV rays, so be sure to take full sun protection; the temperature difference between morning and evening is large, so bring a long-sleeve jacket.
🍽️2. There are very few shops in the scenic area, so bring your own food and water.
🔦3. Exploring Heilong Cave requires a flashlight or headlamp as it is quite dark inside.
🌍4. Protect the environment by taking all your trash with you and set a good example for the kids.
📵5. Some mountain areas have weak signal; it’s recommended to download offline maps in advance.
