Sunset Chasing at Shanhai Square: An Evening Date with the Princess of Bayu Fish

At Shanhai Square in Bayuquan, Yingkou, stands a sculpture with a somewhat cute name—the "Princess of Bayu Fish." At first, I thought it was a local nickname, but after checking, she is indeed the protagonist of a local legend.

The name "Bayuquan" carries a rustic imagery of ancient people "relying on the mountains for food and the sea for food"—"Bayu" refers to the abundant bayu fish in this sea area, and "quan" describes the bay’s semicircular coastline. The most touching legend about the Princess of Bayu Fish is her brave fight against a shark spirit with the help of the Eight Immortals. The nearby "Immortal Island" silently testifies to this myth.

The square extends to a viewing platform in the sea, officially named the Pearl of Bohai. Today’s purpose here is very simple—to chase the sunset.

At the turn of late autumn and early winter, the sunset’s trajectory shifts southward and can no longer be framed with the Pearl of Bohai. I turned my lens to the winding viewing boardwalk, seeking the best angle to capture it with the setting sun.

The best spot to shoot the sunset on the boardwalk is on the floating bridge beside it, gently swaying with the waves. This spot, originally a dock for water activities in peak season, has now become an exclusive territory for fishing enthusiasts and me.

📷 Shooting Ideas
1️⃣ Lamp post holding the sunset. A nice idea, but the floating bridge gently sways with the sea waves, making it too difficult to precisely "place" the sunset under the lamp post with the camera.
2️⃣ Golden ripples. The sunset scatters fragments of gold, flowing with the waves on the sea surface. Occasionally, a seagull landing is also gilded with a golden edge, creating an interesting close-up of living creatures with the golden sea light.
3️⃣ Afterglow reflecting on the bridge. After the sun disappears below the horizon, the sky is filled with orange-red clouds surging from the water-sky junction, making the last ray of light today especially romantic.

🚗 Parking Information
Parking is available next to the square, free for 15 minutes. You can also take a taxi directly from the square without walking 800 meters to the road outside.

❌ The surrounding area is currently completely closed—no food or water vendors—so it’s recommended to bring your own.
