"Masahiko Sato: New × (How to Make + How to Understand)," currently on display at the Yokohama Museum of Art, is the world's first retrospective tracing the creative career of Masahiko Sato, the creator of NHK's educational programs "Pythagora Switch" and "Dango 3 Brothers," as well as hit commercials.
The greatest appeal of this exhibition lies in its diverse exhibits, which offer an experiential understanding of Sato's unique communication design methodology of "making the way to make," which he has pursued for many years. Several actual "Pythagora Devices," familiar from the program, are on display, allowing visitors to see their intricate structures and mechanisms up close, captivating visitors of all ages.
In addition, each piece, from advertisements and programs to research, is carefully explained, providing insight into the background and thought process behind its creation. Visitors can learn more than just the finished product, learning about the logic and "thinking" behind the creation of ideas.
Furthermore, the exhibition is packed with creative inspiration, including the interactive "Garden of Calculation" in the free zone. This exhibition covers Sato's diverse activities as a commercial creator, screenwriter, researcher, and educator, providing a comprehensive look at the world of his work, transcending the boundaries of media. It's a treasure trove of creative thought.
