Wanghai Temple

We arrived at Wanghai Temple just as the late afternoon sun filtered through the trees, casting golden light on the stone steps and red walls. True to its name “Temple that gazes at the sea” there was a natural openness to the place, even though the sea itself lay far from view. It wasn’t the kind of temple filled with grand halls or loud crowds; instead, it felt like a quiet refuge, tucked gently into the landscape, inviting reflection rather than ritual.

As we wandered through the grounds, the wind moved softly through the pine branches above, and the faint sound of chanting from a nearby hall gave the space a peaceful rhythm. The air was clean, the light gentle, and the entire scene seemed suspended between stillness and time. We didn’t speak much it wasn’t necessary. Wanghai Temple felt less like a destination, and more like a pause one of those rare places that doesn’t ask for your attention, but slowly earns it.
