“Beneath the Jade Dragon’s Gaze”- A Day in Baisha Old Town, Lijiang

Baisha Old Town is a hidden gem nestled at the foot of the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Xueshan). Unlike the often-crowded Lijiang Ancient Town, Baisha retains a rustic charm — fewer tourists, more locals, and a sense of tranquility that feels like stepping back in time.

As I strolled through its quiet alleys, the centuries-old architecture immediately stood out. Intricate carvings on doorways, weathered stone sculptures (like the dramatic double-headed guardian beast I encountered), and faded murals whisper stories from the past. Baisha was once the capital of the Naxi Kingdom, and you can still feel the cultural depth here.

After some exploring, I settled into a cozy café overlooking the rooftops and ordered a handcrafted pour-over coffee and an espresso. The view of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from the window was surreal — jagged peaks cutting into the sky, partially wrapped in clouds. Time seemed to slow down with every sip.
